Markets that never close: trading perpetuals 24/7

No sessions and no weekend gap, and why the 00:00 UTC reset still matters.

The short answer

Every perpetuals market trades around the clock, seven days a week. There are no sessions and no weekend close, and that includes the share, index, gold and oil perps.

One clock still matters: your daily drawdown resets at 00:00 UTC, and that moment now falls in the middle of a live market.

What is gone

  • No Friday decision about holding over the weekend, and no Sunday gap to wake up to.

  • No swap at rollover. The cost of holding is funding, settled every hour.

  • No session times to remember. BTC at 3 AM on a Sunday trades as BTC does at 3 PM on a Tuesday.

Share and commodity perps trade whilst the home market is shut

This surprises most traders, so it is worth saying plainly: a share perp keeps trading on Saturday even though its stock exchange is closed. Over the weekend it moves to wherever traders collectively expect the share to open. If news breaks on a Sunday, the perp reacts at once rather than gapping on Monday.

That is both the feature and the warning. You can react to news the moment it lands, and so can everyone trading against you, at any hour.

The 00:00 UTC reset still exists

The market has no daily close, but your account still has a daily limit. At 00:00 UTC the higher of your equity and balance becomes the reference for the next 24 hours, and your daily drawdown is measured from it. It is the same reset as on every UZO account: see How is daily drawdown measured and when does it reset?.

A position open across 00:00 UTC gets a new daily limit mid-trade. Your floating loss does not reset, but the level that would breach you is recalculated from your equity at that moment.

Trading days count on the same boundary. The Best Day Rule and the Instant Pro trading-day minimum both measure days from 00:00 UTC to 00:00 UTC.

Always open, not always busy

Order books are thinnest in quiet hours: for crypto, the late US evening into the early Asian morning, and for share and commodity perps, the whole weekend. Thinner books mean more slippage on market orders. If you trade size in quiet hours, a limit order protects your price.

Your risk does not sleep either

On a Markets account the weekend was enforced downtime. Here a position can move against you at 4 AM on a Sunday, and the drawdown limits apply continuously. Two habits cover it:

The rare exception

There are no scheduled closures, but a market can be paused in unusual conditions, for example if Hyperliquid removes a contract. The market then becomes close-only: you can exit an open position, but not open a new one.
